Escaping the all-inclusive: Delicious dining elsewhere in Punta Cana

If you get tired of the all-inclusive menu at your resort while in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, there are plenty of options to shake things up, from traditional Dominican fare to stunning restaurants right on the beach; these are a few if our favorites.

Sitting right on the edge of the waves of Bavaro Beach, Jellyfish serves exquisite, freshly caught seafood. It's truly an experience just for the views, and the food matches in excellence. For a perfectly charming lunch or dinner spot outside of the resort complex, this place can't be beat.

La Posada de Gladys is the place to go for Dominican food—all the locals eat there. The rice and beans are excellent and any meat dish is bound to be good. The open-air place is cheap and the atmosphere is anything but upscale, but the food is good and the vibe is cozy. The authentic menu and Dominican ambience make this restaurant a must-visit.

For authentic French food, check out Chez Mon Ami. It offers traditional fare such as escargots and fondue (which is fabulous) as well as an extensive wine list that will delight those sick of the limited all-inclusive options. Though lacking in any kind of views, the space is romantic and the upscale French menu is the true star.

Perhaps a bit surprisingly, there's some incredible Indian food in Punta Cana: Pranama dishes up authentic and delicious Indian cuisine with friendly service and excellent drinks, too. The owner is usually in residence and can help recommend menu items, including vegetarian options. The food is wonderfully presented and the atmosphere is relaxed. This place is well worth straying from the all-inclusive menu at your hotel—and try a mojito there!
