Escaping the all-inclusive: Delicious dining elsewhere in Punta Cana

If you get tired of the all-inclusive menu at your resort while in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, there are plenty of options to shake things up, from traditional Dominican fare to stunning restaurants right on the beach; these are a few if our favorites.

Sitting right on the edge of the waves of Bavaro Beach, Jellyfish serves exquisite, freshly caught seafood. It's truly an experience just for the views, and the food matches in excellence. For a perfectly charming lunch or dinner spot outside of the resort complex, this place can't be beat.

A photo tour of Durban's Golden Mile

This is one of Durban's top draws, and rightfully so. It's perfect for family picnics, surfing, fishing, dining in open-air restaurants, biking and more. It's glorious year-round, and an afternoon spent exploring the Golden Mile is not to be missed.

Here are some of my favorite photos from my afternoon that transport me right back to that peaceful day. I also have a few recommendations for travelers to make the most of this beautiful destination.

Go in the spring or fall. On a weekday afternoon in autumn, the beach is practically deserted. It's More...

Sunny Turks & Caicos is great any time of year

Category: Destinations | ShoppingChristine @ 04:08

I’ve written before about how I generally like to avoid beachy destinations when I travel because of my sunburn-prone skin, but with every Caribbean destination I read about on travel42, I start to change my mind. Ruling out beaches and islands eliminates a lot of fantastic Caribbean destinations that even sun-haters like me will find beautiful, such as Turks & Caicos. More...

White-sand beaches and wine tastings in Portugal

Category: Destinations | DiningMegan Leader @ 10:10

Here at travel42, we're dreaming of sunny skies and warm beaches. Can you tell? In the past few weeks, Christine posted about sunny Miami, Karen posted about exotic yet easy-to-access Puerto Rico, Cindy wrote about luxurious California hotels and Janet had a post called, "Florida, Florida, Florida." We're all just a tiny bit bitter about Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of six more weeks of winter manifested in the cold, gray drizzle steadily pouring over Winston-Salem as I type this post. Escape the dreary winter weather with these cheery, decidedly un-gloomy destinations!

Category: Destinations | EventsMegan Leader @ 11:13

Here in the Winston-Salem office, we're all ready to shake off the dull gloominess of winter and take a road trip to a sunny beach somewhere. Yesterday, Christine blogged about Miami, a perfect destination for outdoor activities and fabulous nightlife. If you're ready for warm weather like we are, you're in luck, because we've got a few more perfect destinations where you can trade your coat and winter boots for a sundress (or comparable warm-weather menswear) and flip-flops.
